The deadline to apply for Pension Credit and qualify for the cost of living payment is 18 December 2022.
The run up to Christmas is a busy time, but one thing that’s worth checking is whether you or any loved ones are eligible for Pension Credit. By claiming before 18 December 2022, pensioners could be entitled to an extra £324 cost of living payment.
The average Pension Credit award is worth over £3,500 a year as well as access to a wide range of other benefits – such as help with housing costs, Council Tax or heating bills – in addition to the extra cost of living payments.
Pension Credit is designed to help people over State Pension age and on a low income with daily living costs, though you do not need to be in receipt of State Pension to receive it.
You can use the Pension Credit calculator to see if you’re eligible and apply online for Pension Credit if so.
The Department for Work and Pensions can also be contacted by phone on 0800 99 1234, Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm.
