From 1 January, if your pension scheme is administered in the UK you’ll still be protected by us, even if your employer is based in the EU.
What this means for schemes with employers based in EU countries
If your scheme’s employer is based in an EU country, and fails, it’s still possible for your scheme to enter the PPF. Employers based in an EU country will simply be in the same position as non-EU overseas employers are at the moment.
Next steps
If you’re a trustee of a DB pension scheme and you think your EU-based sponsoring employer is at risk, you should discuss in advance with your legal advisers the steps to take to enter the PPF.
If you’re a member of a DB pension scheme with an EU-based sponsoring employer, and you’ve got concerns, you should contact your scheme trustees.
